Archaeology for Mental Health and Wellbeing

The University of Winchester has been using archaeology to support military veterans’ mental health. Led by archaeologist Dr Paul Everill , the Heritage for Heroes studentships and the veteran wellbeing programme as part of his excavation in Nokalakevi, Georgia, have helped build new skills and enhance wellbeing. Building on these initiatives and developed in collaboration with psychologist Dr Karen Burnell, the AMPHORA (Authentic and Meaningful Participation in Heritage Or Related Activities) guidelines support the safe delivery of heritage projects that aim to improve public mental health.
