Course overview
On this course, learners will look at how best to understand and evaluate this new way of improving health through innovation (software and hardware) and apply this optimally to various cohorts of society in both acute and chronic situations. By understanding population health and individual needs the students will be able to embrace the technologies most appropriate for delivering person-centred care.
Learners will develop advanced skills in complex communication via different mediums of digitalisation, providing safe and effective care and wellbeing.

Course details
Lectures will cover the following topics: digital capabilities framework and self-assessment of digital competency; immersive technology; systems design and cyber security; understanding the issues around usability and digital inclusion; virtual consultation; clinical skills for the delivery of virtual consultations; human-computer interaction; technology-enhanced care; smart homes; and artificial intelligence.
To gain the credits students will be required to work in a group to develop a digital solution for a service-user problem and produce a written reflection on the development of that solution.
This course will provide 18 hours of contact time over 4 days.
No prior digital knowledge is required, as each learner will be supported to develop their own digital skills, through a skills audit and action learning sets. Each week of the module will also be aligned to a relevant Digital Badge.
