Becoming a Barrister guide

Trinity-Jade, a second year student studying LLB (Hons) Law, tells us about her visit to The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple to find out what it's like to become a Barrister.

Last night I had the incredible opportunity to attend ‘Dinner to the Universities’ held at The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.

This evening provided me with the chance to network, meet and speak to a number of barristers and judges, who gracefully gave up their evenings to put on an event for students to have dinner and discuss what life is really like at the Bar!

Starting with a panel discussion led by Heidi Stonecliffe KC, Sushil Kumar and Benjamin Gray - all of which were so raw about how the path to the Bar will not be linear, yet so admirably shared their stories behind who they are, what they do and how they got to the position they’re in - a very inspiring panel discussion and was very refreshing and motivating to listen to.

I also had the pleasure of talking to Nancy Kelehar, Elizabeth Garcia and Dermot Keating KC throughout the evening - each of whom were so helpful and lovely to talk to - their hard work and dedication is inspiring!

The company, the atmosphere and the food was so delightful, definitely leaving me with an evening to remember.

I left the evening feeling incredibly fortunate and grateful to receive first-hand advice from professionals; their openness and sincerity was so reassuring and I feel very lucky to have had this privileged experience.

Thank you so much to everyone involved and to Dr Emma Nottingham and University of Winchester for providing me with the chance to experience such a wonderful event.
