Biography

Overview:
Matt Bunday is a senior event management lecturer and technical production specialist who has taught at a number of universities and drama schools over the last 13 years.  He started his teaching career as an associate lecturer on the event management course at Southampton Solent University before going onto work as an associate or part-time lecturer at the university of Surrey, London Metropolitan University, the University of West London and at Rose Bruford College - an accredited London Drama School.   He has also delivered guest lectures at the Guildford School of Acting, The Royal Central School of Speech & Drama and at the BIMM Music Institutes in Brighton & Bristol.

Industry experience:
After starting his event career working on large scale corporate events, such as the London International Boat Show, Matt launched his own event management and production service which he ran for 10 years.  Since 2021 he has been working as a project manager and marketing lead for RSWSound Ltd in Hampshire.
Matt’s clients have included Sports Stadia, local authorities, national charities, and Hampshire businesses.  He has delivered high profile events including a world record event in the Live Quarter of London's O2 Arena for national housing charity 'Depaul UK', and a Titanic commemoration on Southampton docks which was broadcast around the world.  He can bring significant experience and knowledge to the live events that he works on in event production planning and risk management areas.  He regularly works with the client and local authorities to produce the correct paperwork, risk assessments and compliance documents to fulfil licensing and safety advisory group requirements. He then enjoys bringing this experience back into the classroom to enhance his teaching.

Areas of expertise

Matt is currently developing research ideas on how politics can influence large scale events in what is a very politically active year globally.  He has recently delivered a seminar on this subject at the National Association of Event Management Educators forum at Sheffield Hallam University exploring how students could be better trained to work on events that have potential political elements to them.
As part of his work on the teaching team at Winchester, Matt is also looking into how to increase the practical offering to students in legal and local government compliance.  Working with course colleagues and partners in local authorities, Matt is exploring how to put on more tabletop activities and role play exercises for the students to better prepare them for an industry that requires key licensing, safety and compliance meetings which are hard to teach in the classroom.
