How to apply (International)
There are a number of different ways for international students to apply to a course here at Winchester
There are a number of different ways for international students to apply to the University of Winchester. Please visit the relevant pages below for further information on how to apply for your chosen course.
Undergraduate (Bachelors)
All applications to our undergraduate courses should be made through UCAS. Our UCAS institution code is W76 and you can find the relevant course code on your chosen course page.
Once you have submitted your application you will be given a UCAS ID number. Please email the following documents (if available at the time of application) to admissions@winchester.ac.uk quoting your name and ID number to complete your application:
- Evidence of academic transcripts and certificates (translated by a verified translator if they are not in English)
- Evidence of your English Language skills if applicable (e.g. IELTS – view the full list of all accepted tests)
- A copy of the main page of your passport and any previous UK visa stamps
Postgraduate (Masters)
All applications for postgraduate courses should be made using our online application system.
The only courses that use different application routes are:
- MSc Social Work – Applications should be made using the UCAS undergraduate application system.
- PGCE and School Direct teacher training – Applications should be made using UCAS Teacher Training.
Once you have submitted your application you will be given a UCAS ID number. Please email the following documents (if available at the time of application) to admissions@winchester.ac.uk quoting your ID number to complete your application:
- Evidence of academic transcripts and certificates (translated by a verified translator if they are not in English)
- Evidence of your English Language skills if applicable (e.g. IELTS – view the full list of all accepted tests)
- A copy of the main page of your passport and any previous UK visa stamps
Please note that the UCAS Postgraduate system closed in 2021.
International Foundation Programme (IFP)
All applications for the IFP should be made using our online application system.
- Evidence of academic transcripts and certificates (translated by a verified translator if they are not in English)
- Evidence of your English Language ability skills if applicable (e.g. IELTS – view the full list of all accepted tests)
- An academic reference preferably from your last place of study
- A copy of the main page of your passport and any previous UK visa stamps
Please note that we no longer use the Direct Entry Form.

After you have applied
1. Send all the required documents
You must make sure that you have sent all the following documents to admissions@winchester.ac.uk

- A copy of the main page of your passport and any previous UK visa stamps
2. Accepting your offer
You need to accept our offer. You can do this online using your UCAS account if you applied this way; or if you applied directly to the University you can simply email us to tell us at admissions@winchester.ac.uk
3. Apply for accommodation
Once you have accepted our offer you can apply for accommodation. We strongly suggest you apply as soon as possible as this will give you the best opportunity to secure a room of your choice. Find out more about our accommodation options and how to apply
4. Pay your deposit
All self-funding international students who require a visa are also required to pay a Tuition Fee Deposit of £2000. US students in receipt of a US Federal Loan are not required to pay the Tuition Fee Deposit. You can find details of how to make this payment on the International financial information page.
5. Send us a CAS form
At the point you receive an offer from us, you will receive an invitation to apply for you CAS via CAS Shield. All of the supporting information that we require to issue a CAS can be submitted via this platform.
If there is an additional requirement for a VISA credibility interview, you will be invited to record an interview at your own convenience via CAS Shield.
6. Applying for your visa
Once you have received your CAS you can begin to make the online application for your study visa. We strongly advise you to read the UKVI Guidance Notes and our Visa Information before commencing your online application. Please contact us if you have any questions about the application process.
