Physiotherapy students undertake simulated placement prep

Physiotherapy students working together on the ward

Around 120 BSc (Hon) Physiotherapy students undertook a simulated placement preparation week during Welcome Week.

The students worked with high fidelity mannequins and simulated ventilators to replicate intensive care environments, and with actors who role-played patients to help improve their communications skills. They also assessed real patients virtually in their own homes, using remote platforms to familiarise themselves with virtual consultations.

There was also an opportunity to learn about the digitalisation of patient records using digital electronic patient records software to manage complex discharges.

Students also had the opportunity to share their experiences on certain placements and locations to provide top tips or guidance or simply reassurance. A discussion board for ongoing student conversations has been set up.

Conference success for Nursing lecturer

Congratulations to Ginny Roberts, Senior Lecturer in Simulated Learning in the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, whose poster was selected as one of two winners at the Networking for Education in Healthcare (NET) conference.

The poster, Project Hephaestus: Crafting experiential learning through adaptive virtual placements for second year student nurses, showcased the work on Extended Reality technology for practice learning experiences in the University's Nursing programmes.

Organised by Advance HE, NET is the leading, international conference for networking in healthcare education.
