Attending an undergraduate interview or audition
Some undergraduate courses at the University of Winchester have an interview or audition as part of the selection process.
Interviews and Auditions
Where an audition or interview is required, it is specified on the relevant course page on our website and UCAS course search. Attending an audition or interview can be a daunting experience but we hope that the following guidance will help you prepare for the day.
What is the purpose of the interview/ audition?
The interview or audition is designed to give you the opportunity to demonstrate your suitability and passion for the course you have applied for. It is also an excellent opportunity to find out more about the university, teaching team and course. The admissions tutors will want to find out:
- more about you;
- why you have chosen the course;
- what you know about the subject area; and
- relevant skills and attributes you have.

When and where are interviews held?
Most interviews take place in person, on-campus in Winchester, as we feel this gives you the best opportunity to demonstrate your suitability, passion and creativity. In addition to providing you with the opportunity to showcase your strengths, visiting the University campus will also give you the opportunity to meet fellow applicants, members of the teaching team, hear first-hand from current students and visit the facilities we have to offer you.
If you are unable to attend an on-site interview or audition, we may be able to facilitate an online Teams session for you (subject to availability and course requirements). If you would like to discuss the possibility of an online session, please contact the Admissions Team so we can advise you on the options available.
We will send you an invitation email containing the date, time and location for your session. If you haven’t received this, please contact the Admissions Team.
How to travel to the University
There is limited parking on campus, which means that we are only able to offer parking to those with a blue accessible requirements badge.
If you wish to travel by car, we advise you to use the Winchester Park & Ride, the Hospital Pay & Display car park on Burma Road or the car parks in Winchester city centre (e.g., Tower Street). Please note, parking charges and terms may apply.
Winchester railway station is approximately 1 mile (15-minute walk) from the University.

What to expect on the day
On the day, please report to the location specified in your invitation email to register your attendance with the course tutors or member of Admissions. For some courses, we will ask you to present ID and qualification documents at this stage. More details on the documents we may ask for is in the section below.
Once registered, we will take you across to the interview room(s) and introduce you to the session and selection process. We appreciate that you may be nervous, so we are there to guide you through the process and answer all your queries! There are no trick questions, the admissions tutors will want to find out:
- more about you;
- why you have chosen the course;
- what you know about the subject area; and
- relevant skills and attributes you have.
Where possible, the interview schedule will also contain a tour of the campus/ facilities. You will receive a schedule of the session in your interview invite email to ensure you are aware of the overall session prior to your arrival.
