Joyce Goodman is Professor of History of Education. She has filled a range of roles at the University, including Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Health and Social Care, and Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer.
She is former editor of History of Education, past president of the History of Education Society UK and former secretary of the International Standing Conference for the History of Education. She is also a research associate at CERLIS (Centre de recherche sur les liens sociaux) in Paris and has acted as advisor to the Albert M.Greenfield Centre for the Digital History of Women’s Education, Bryn Mawr College, USA. She has been awarded honorary membership of the International Standing Conference for the HIstory of Education (ISCHE), Network 17 of the European Educational Research Association (EERA) and of the British Federation of Women Graduates (BFWG).
Professor Goodman has published widely on women and education. Her books include Women and Education: Major Themes in Education (Routledge, 2011, 4 volumes), with Jane Martin, and Girls’ Secondary Education in the Western World (Palgrave, 2010/2014), with James Albisetti and Rebecca Rogers, which was republished in 2019 by Gutenberg Press in a Greek translation.
