The University of Winchester’s newest study abroad partner  - Southern Utah University - stands at the heart of some of the USA’s most stunning scenery.

Located within a five-hour drive of more than 20 national parks and monuments in Utah, Arizona, and Nevada, it is the only designated University of the Parks in the United States.

The campus is in Cedar City, between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, as a tourism gateway to nearby Bryce Canyon National Park, Zion National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and Cedar Breaks National Monument.

This new partnership allows University of Winchester students the opportunity to study abroad at Southern Utah for one semester, as part of student exchange.

Southern Utah University has around 12,000 students from over 85 different countries and runs more than 150 undergraduate programmes.

Just like the University of Winchester Southern Utah’s has its roots in teacher training. It started life in 1897 as the Branch Normal School, the first teaching training school in southern Utah. It gained University status in 1991.

Southern Utah’s alumni include Michael O.Levitt the 14th governor of Utah and Secretary of health and Human Services under President George W. Bush and Harry Read, the US Senate Majority leader from 2007 to 2015.

Its sports teams and alumni are known as Thunderbirds.

Amy Simcock, Head of International Student Success at the University of Winchester, said: “This Study Abroad partnership is a great opportunity for Criminology, Business, English, and Media students but there are opportunities for many other programmes as well. Studying Abroad not only helps to broaden your horizons but it's fantastic for boosting a student’s CV and employability skills.”

Dr. Kurt Harris, SUU's Director of Learning Abroad and Associate Professor of English, said: "The University of Winchester offers many of the same majors that SUU does, and they have experienced, caring international student support staff who help students select classes, secure housing, and adjust to life in a new country. I foresee that the University of Winchester will quickly become a popular study abroad destination for SUU students."

Winchester already has partnerships with several universities in the US and Canada and earlier this year announced a new link with Leiden University in The Netherlands. To find out more visit Studying abroad as part of your degree - University of Winchester.
