Beverley Harden, a Visiting Professor at the University of Winchester, has been named in the King's New Year's Honours List 2023. She has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to healthcare.
Since 2018 Beverley has been the Allied Health Professions lead within Health Education England, working to support the 15 Allied Health Professions, develop advanced skills and grow the workforce. Allied Health Professions include physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists.
As a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Winchester, Beverley undertakes research and also supports the education and training of students studying Allied Health Professions courses, including BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy and BA (Hons) Nutrition and Dietetics.
"We warmly congratulate Beverley on this well-deserved recognition of her phenomenal contribution to healthcare and to Allied Health Professions in particular. We are very proud that she is one of our visiting professors," said Professor Simon Jobson, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing.
"Here at Winchester we work with a range of NHS partners and providers to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals in the region, who will go on to provide outstanding care to patients. It's fantastic to have Beverley's experience and expertise to help us achieve this."
Speaking about her award, Beverley said: "Thank you so much, this award recognises the strength and value of our shared purpose to recognise, respect and realise the potential of everyone within our health and care workforce. I have proudly worked alongside the University of Winchester for over a decade to develop our current and future healthcare workforce."
With extensive senior NHS leadership experience within the Hampshire and Isle of Wight system, Beverley has managed a number of multi-professional healthcare services within Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and led Trust Education Services. She has led complex service and workforce transformation across systems and with experience working with the national NHS England New Models of Care team, as Allied Health Professions Lead in the National Workforce Review Team and Southcentral Strategic Health Authority.
As a physiotherapist, she worked as an expert clinician in critical care and with patients with chronic respiratory failure requiring home ventilation and rehabilitation. Beverley has volunteered extensively across the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, most notably in establishing safe and effective national on-call standards and guidance.
The New Year Honours list recognises outstanding achievements by a wide range of extraordinary people from across the United Kingdom. People are awarded honours for achievements in their field of work, as well as for making a difference to their community.
