A 'pop-up' vaccination clinic was set up at the University of Winchester this week, in a drive to encourage students and staff to receive a Covid-19 vaccination before the start of the new academic year later this month.
The clinic took place in Welcome Week, as new students arrived for their introduction to university life, with staff from Solent NHS Trust on hand to administer Pfizer vaccinations. Over 70 people were vaccinated during the day.
"Both the University and Winchester Student Union are strongly encouraging all staff and students to get their Covid vaccines as soon as possible," said the Reverend Professor Elizabeth Stuart, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Winchester.
"Our message is for individuals to not only protect themselves, but to protect everyone in our community - from keeping students and staff safe on campus to safeguarding those who may be more vulnerable within our wider community across the city.
"We would like to thank colleagues at Solent NHS Trust for their support with this first vaccination clinic. Weaim to work with partnersto host another pop-up clinic on campus in the near future, to further help remove barriers to getting vaccinated."
In line with the latest Government guidance, the University is planning for courses to be taught primarily in person, face-to-face on the University campus or associated facilities, for the 2021/22 academic year. The University continues to encourage regular testing twice a week, regardless of vaccination status, and provides free lateral flow tests to staff and students across the campus.
