Student teacher Alex Parnell shares her experience of teaching in a South African primary school during a two-week placement in the country, which is part of the University's partnership with the Nelson Mandela Museum.
If you had told us this time last year that this week we would be teaching full-time in a South African primary school, we would have never have believed you.
Yet here we are, at the Nelson Mandela No-Moscow Primary School in Qunu. Teaching in a class where there is little English has had its challenges, but it has also been one of the best experiences of our lives. From English to Maths to social sciences and life skills, we've taught them all.
We're working in pairs to help develop learning and inspire both pupils and teachers in Grades 2, 3 and 4 - which roughly equates to Years 3-6 in England.
The past few days have been a real learning experience for us all, showing us that we're capable of more than we think and highlighting our ever-growing teaching strengths.
