Industry professionals return to university for Event Management students' networking event

17 Jul 2024

Students past and present networked at a special evening organised by undergraduates on the Event Management course at the University of Winchester.

The first Event Management Alumni Event at the University’s West Downs Centre proved a success and is now likely to become an annual fixture in the calendar.

Second Year students and their module leader Chris Smith organised and ran the evening as part of their Events in Practice module aimed at providing practical real-world learning.

It drew a varied mix of alumni students who gave advice and support to current Event Management, Marketing and Digital Media Design students.

The alumni took part in two panels - one made up of recent graduates and another for those who have been in the industry for 10-plus years.

Discussion topics included sustainability, event attendee experience, self-employment, and engaging with others in industry.

Among the alumni taking part were:

Marie Haverly, Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer BA (Hons) Event Management, said: “It was very interesting and useful for our current students and the alumni attendees enjoyed being reunited with their programme team and the University itself.

“Lots of contact details were exchanged and overall it was a very enjoyable evening - we hope this is the first of many.”

Chris Smith said: “It was a pleasure to chair the panel consisting of several Alumni from the programme, all with their own outlook in the industry since graduating here at Winchester.

“We hope the event was an insightful evening for both other Alumni attendees as well as our present students on the programme.”
