We signed the Time to Change pledge for mental health
To support the University’s commitment to improving mental health among staff and students, we started off the month by signing the ‘Time To Change’ pledge. This means that we are committed to reducing stigma and discrimination around mental health. The University has a programme of wellbeing events and campaigns, such as the #20HealthyDays, as a part of this promise.
We congratulated Phil Malatesta on the GetActive ‘Best Project’ Award
Sports Operations & Participation Manager Phil Malatesta received a Winchester District Sports Award for his GetActive scheme, which encourages staff and students of all skill levels to get involved with sports activities taking place around campus. This scooped the award for ‘Best Project’, demonstrating how much it has grown since it launched last year.
We explored responsible business
As a part of the University’s Centre for Responsible Management’s seminar series on responsibility in business, we welcomed Carolyn Fairbairn, the Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), to the University. She gave the talk Responsible business: the way forward on 15 February, using her years of expertise in the field to examine the issues that face businesses today.

We celebrated Hampshire Pride
Now in its third year, The University is proud to be a part of Hampshire Pride. On Saturday 25 February, the University was the starting point for the Pride Parade through Winchester, followed by events at the County Council and Guildhall. This comes at the end of a month of celebrating LGBT+ history here at the University, with events such as the Hampshire Pride LGBT History Symposium hosted by the Centre for Gender Studies.
