Dr. Mamadou T. Bah was awarded a PhD in Computational Mechanics in 2003 by the University of Southampton. During his doctoral research at the Computational Engineering Design Centre, he developed Finite Element-based reduced order modelling techniques for the efficient analysis of the dynamics of mistuned bladed disks, as part of a British Aerospace-Rolls Royce University Technology Partnership for Design. He studied and was trained as a Researcher at the Universite de Technologie de Troyes, developing mathematical and numerical methods for time-variant reliability analysis of dynamic systems as part of the French degree ‘‘Diplome d’ Etudes Avancees’’. Prior to this, he graduated with a BSc and an MSc in Electro-Mechanical Engineering from Odessa State Polytechnic University (Ukraine) and studied Mathematics and Physics at the Faculty of Sciences of the Universite Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar in Senegal.
Dr. Bah has more than 12 years of postdoctoral research experience in the development of computational methods, mathematical modelling and computer simulation. As a Senior Research Fellow, he extensively carried responsibilities of research in the area of computational biomechanics, teaching, supervision, consultancy and grant application. He has successfully secured funding from both industry and research institutions and worked broadly across different interfaces, having developed a wide cross-disciplinary research portfolio related to image-based modelling of implant performance. His research was reflected by the very first paper reporting the primary stability of a new short stem design across a spectrum of patients, based on femur anatomy parameterization and automated implant positioning. The technology has been transferred to industry.
His current research interests are broad: image processing, 3D construction, advanced finite element contact modelling, robust design, data science, probabilistic and statistical shape analysis, surrogate modelling/machine learning, stochastic analysis, data science and cybercrime.
Dr. Bah has supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers. He is committed to remain a strong advocate for research and science communication, as demonstrated by publications of over 60 journal and conference papers, his presentations at involvement in international events and visits to overseas research groups. His efforts resulted in delivering lectures at Beijing Jiaotong University and editing a book as part of a joint collaboration, and at other universities such as the University of Cape Town (South Africa) and at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) (Kharagpur, India).
Dr. Bah has taught various subjects including Mathematics, Statistics, Surrogate Modelling, Optimisation, Computational Methods, Finite Element Analysis, Mechanics of Solids, Mechanics and Modelling & Computing. He uses his skills and experience to inspire and challenge students in order to empower them to reach their full potential and master the taught subjects.
He is a Reviewer for many scientific journals and a member of various societies. He speaks English, French, Russian, French and Wolof and Fulani and has personal interests in philosophy, spirituality, humanity, tolerance and social justice and the promotion of education worldwide.
