Cathy Seago is the director of Evolving Motion, receiving awards in support of choreographic research and performance since 1998 in Europe, the USA and South East Asia. The interdisciplinary performance work of Evolving Motion focusses on the somatic experience of dance. Support has been awarded by Arts Council England, Artist Development Initiative at the Royal Opera House, DerbyDance/ Dance4 and Swindon Dance. Residencies in South East Asia and Europe have enabled the development of new work and work has been commissioned by Jacksons Lane, Hertsdance and in Taiwan and Chicago, 8 large-scale works alongside smaller site and screen-based works have toured in the South East and South West of England and to London, New York, Edinburgh, Paris, Prague, Taipei, Singapore, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.
Cathy is Programme Leader for Choreography and Dance at The University of Winchester She has been a faculty member at Laban and Roehampton University and Guest Artist at Taipei National University of the Arts, Shenandoah University USA and the Duncan Centre Conservatoire in Prague.
Cathy was awarded a place within the 5th Asia-Europe Dance Forum of the Asia-Europe Foundation, in China. Following this she initiated BOW to further cross-cultural arts exchanges through dance. BOW international collaborations and exchange projects ran from 2010 - 2014.
Cathy received a PhD by Works in the Public Domain in 2015. Her thesis title was Evolving Motion: Examining Flux in Choreographic Practice. Further to her BA from the University of Surrey Roehampton, she has a Specialist Diploma in Choreological Studies from Laban, a Professional Certification from the Merce Cunningham Studio and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College NY.
