Since qualifying with a degree in BSc Hons in Physiotherapy in 1998, I have developed expertise in clinical, academic and leadership roles. My portfolio career has enabled me to develop advanced clinical skills whilst also developing my expertise in research, teaching and learning pedagogies.
My clinical background covers a wide spread of physiotherapy areas both in private and public sectors particularly in general rehabilitation in the community and acute settings. Research and ongoing personal and professional development has been an integral part of my career.
Since 2019, I have taken the role of Senior Lecturer at the University of Winchester. On top of this full-time post, I manage to keep regular weekend shifts as a Senior Physiotherapist at the Circle of Health Groups, Harbour Hospital in Poole, and Salisbury District Hospital Foundation NHS Trust. I am enthusiastic about patient care, and I thoroughly enjoy working in multi-disciplinary teams. Keeping these clinical roles albeit on weekends add immense values to my teaching and pursuits in research.
I have a wealth of experience pursuing other senior academic leadership roles such as: Programme Lead for Level 7 Post-Graduate Certificate in Practice Education and also for PGCert in Community Rehabilitation. I am an External Examiner for London South Bank University, an Education Consultant for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, a member of Faculty Quality Committee, and previously, Placement Manager for the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing.
I am undertaking a doctorate study for Professional Doctor of Education as I advance my passion for promoting quality and evidence-informed pedagogy in teaching and learning in healthcare education, focusing my research on Transformative Learning Theory (Mezirow, 1991) and students’ sense of belongingness. I am hoping to complete my Doctorate study in 2027.
Overall, my extensive clinical and academic experience provide me with solid grounding and in-depth understanding of the external and institutional drivers that impact on healthcare education and workforce landscape.
I persistently enhance my knowledge of research methodologies, pedagogical and andragogical strategies, and epistemologies as well as the quality assurance processes in higher education including external examination and validation. I support embedding evidence and quality into practice and finding ways to make sense of research evidence and its implication for patients, staff, and the wider organisation. I am also an active Peer Reviewer for The British Journal of Healthcare Management.
My career objective is to further my skills, widen my professional network, and continue to improve my contribution to academia, research, evidence-based practice, pedagogy, and quality in clinical care in line with the professional guidelines, policies, and expectations. I strongly support research, quality, and cost-efficiency in everything I do to demonstrate the values, excellence, innovation, and integrity of the organisations I affiliate with.
I am currently writing a Physiotherapy textbook as a sole Editor for Elsevier Publishing, Clinical Case Studies in Modern Physiotherapy: An Evidence-Informed Approach, due for publication release in the first quarter of 2025.
