Biography

Jaana Jeffery is a Senior lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics in the School of Health and Care Professions. She teaches on the BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Dietetics. She is an experienced HCPC-registered clinical dietitian, having focused on cancer care for most of her career within the NHS and academia.

Jaana is working towards her PhD exploring the challenges of living beyond a breast cancer diagnosis from a public health and health policy perspective.

Prior to her current role, she was the Macmillan Supportive Care Lead for Hampshire Hospitals where she established a Wellbeing and Supportive Care service to offer holistic and personalised support to all patients diagnosed with cancer.

Jaana has worked closely with the Wessex Cancer Alliance (WCA) over the years. One example of a project, funded by NHS England in collaboration with WCA, had the aim of evaluating how we use Additional Roles (ARRS) to support Primary Care Networks (PCNs) to establish a multi-disciplinary team to provide a more integrated health and social care service for people living with and beyond cancer. This project encompassed physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians and nursing professionals across Hampshire.

She works with industry specialists to deliver education on cancer, palliative care and nutrition to clinicians such as GPs, Oncologists, Cancer Specialist Nurses and support staff. Jaana has been a guest speaker for many cancer charities including Move Against Cancer, Wessex Cancer Support, Macmillan and Breast Cancer Now. She is a Safeguarding Governor at a local school in rural Winchester.
