Biography

Rebekah is programme leader for the BA Liberal Arts and the MA Death, Religion and Culture courses at the University of Winchester. She teaches modules on the liberal arts tradition, with particular reference to the question of first principles, Critical Theory, the philosophy of the teacher and the relation of life and death. Her teaching is interdisciplinary in scope, ranging across philosophy, politics and the arts.

Areas of expertise

Rebekah's research interests concern the relation between God, politics, philosophy and education.

Research interests

Rebekah’s research focuses on the relation between philosophy, politics and education in the work of Hegel, Adorno, Gillian Rose and Rowan Williams, with particular emphasis on the theory of ‘educational logic’ in the recent work of Nigel Tubbs. Rose’s retrieval of the Hegelian absolute for social and political theory is an ongoing area of interest for the intersections of philosophy, politics, religion and education. More recent work focuses on issues of diaspora and identity in relation to Hegel’s Aufhebung.

I have recently published on the work of Paul Gilroy and on recent readings of Gillian Rose.

Rebekah leads the Liberal Arts for Teachers project at the University of Winchester which seeks to explore a philosophy and practice of liberal arts teaching in primary and secondary schools in the UK. She is also co-convener of the bi-annual European Liberal Arts and Sciences Conference with colleagues from across Europe and was convener of the 2nd European Liberal Arts and Sciences Conference in Winchester in 2017.
