Before moving to academia Steve gained over 20 years’ experience in the field as a youth worker & as a manager of Youth and Careers Service staff across six borough council areas in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. He joined The University of Winchester in 2009 to establish the BA (Hons) in Childhood, Youth & Community Studies having previously led a Youth Work Degree at The University of Southampton and having taught at the YMCA National College in London.
During his time at Winchester Steve has held several roles including Programme Leader, Senior Lecturer & Teaching Fellow. Steve is also the Wellbeing & Employability Tutor for the Department of Interprofessional Studies. Steve has led or worked with Heads of Department on revalidations for the programme. Over the last 11 years Steve has been module leader for many modules on the programme. These Include:

Steve also supervises students undertaking their final year dissertations.
Steve has worked with other programmes to replicate modules taught on CYCS/CYS and has acted as an academic mentor to new staff. Moving forward Steve is keen to teach across programmes in areas where he has developed considerable expertise.
Steve is enthusiastic about blended learning and has recently worked with IT services as an early adopter of Windows 10 & the roll out of the VDI. Steve has also worked actively with the TEL team on the roll out of New Quizzes in Canvas having been a previous user of Classic Quizzes. Steve has enabled students to book tutorials on line via Canvas and has delivered both teaching and tutorials via Canvas & Teams.
On several occassions Steve has been nominated by students for the tutor of the year award and was one of four finalists ifor the 2018/19 year.
