Biography

Chris has a BA in Modern History (1st Class) from Sheffield University and a PhD from the LSE, titled Resisting Reform: Police and Society in Occupation Japan (1945-52). He taught history at the University of Derby from 1992 to 1993 before taking up a lectureship in modern Japanese history at the University of Winchester. He was Head of History from September 2014 to August 2018.

He has written extensively on the post-war occupations of mainland Japan (1945-52) and Okinawa (1945-72) and is currently working on the environmental history of the early post-war period.
