Whether you want to embrace the social side of university or focus on building your career (or both!), there are hundreds of ways to get everything you need from your time at Winchester.

Here are a way few ways how:

Societies and the Winchester Music Centre

Winchester has societies in everything, from degree-based societies, hobbies, and sports.

Most undergraduate courses will have a society, which can help you with your assignments and arrange your fancy dress theme for BOP. Sports range from football and hockey to Ultimate Frisbee. There are also societies for film, performing arts, comic books, a LGBT+ society and so many more. Do you play an instrument? You could join the Winchester Music Centre, where students and staff alike make and perform music together. All of these societies have socials and events designed for meeting new people, and have a variety of roles that can help you develop skills in leadership and events management.

Student Union Events

The Student Union run events every week of the semester. Wednesday is always BOP night, and Friday nights have events from ‘Superheroes vs Villains’ to ‘Foam Party’. There’s daytime and evening events throughout the year, such as chocolate workshops and wine tasting – it’s a wonder we get all our work done with all the fun stuff that goes on!

Volunteering & improving your skills

Want to make the most out of your degree? Many courses offer the chance to take the second year module ‘Volunteering’. This is great for enhancing your CV, and by working with a charity or company you’ll gain a huge variety of skills and experiences. Some courses offer similar opportunities, such as a year abroad and work placement modules. There are also internal opportunities for students such as Student Ambassador, mentorship schemes and the Winchester Hub to show off and develop those transferable skills.
