Creative and Professional Writing students work on award-winning Climate Change album

The album This Changes Everything: 11 songs about Climate Change was written and performed by University of Winchester Creative Writing students and staff, and tackles an issue that the music industry is failing to acknowledge. Comissioned by Professor Joy Carter and released by the University’s record label, Splendid Fred Records, the album went on to win a national Green Gown Award, and reached the finals of the International Awards.

Promoted by Creative and Professional Writing students as part of their 2nd year module 'Professional Writing 2', proceeds from album sales went to OXFAM.

Glenn Fosbraey, label boss and Programme Leader for the University's Creative Writing degree, said: "A great deal of work went into making and promoting the album, so it was wonderful to have been recognised in this way. We are all very proud to have won the award, and Splendid Fred Records remains dedicated to raising awareness of climate change.'

Music has long been a prime way of raising awareness and creating a dialogue, and it is our duty, not just as a University, but as people, to ensure everyone is conscious of Climate Change, and that turning our backs on it and pretending it is not happening is no longer an option.
