New Winchester Health Clinic launches physiotherapy treatment for local community
Bookings are now open for the new Winchester Health Clinic, which has been set up by the University of Winchester to provide high-quality physiotherapy assessment and treatment to the local community.
Based in the new Winchester Sport and Leisure Park at Bar End, the Clinic is set to become a leading provider of physiotherapy services in the city.
Undergraduate students on the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree programme will be working alongside Health and Care Professions Council-accredited (HCPC) Physiotherapy practitioners in the Clinic during placements as part of their studies. When they book, patients can choose whether they wish to see a qualified physiotherapist or a student supervised by an attending HCPC-accredited practitioner.
"As an environment which supports education, our new Clinic is offering a first-class physiotherapy service to local people, with patients benefiting from the expertise of practitioners at the cutting-edge of teaching and research at the University of Winchester," said Sophie Gay, Head of Practice Learning in the University's Faculty of Health and Wellbeing.
"In addition, our physiotherapy students will gain invaluable experience of treating patients at the Clinic during their practical placements, preparing them for their future careers as qualified practitioners. Clinics will often be run by students, who will always be overseen by a qualified member of staff. Our aim is to make high-quality physiotherapy assessment and treatment accessible to everyone and this is reflected in the low cost of appointments."
Professor Simon Jobson, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, said: "I hope that the Winchester Health Clinic will be well received in the local community. The University of Winchester has a growing reputation for teaching and research in health and wellbeing and we are committed to positively influence the health and wellbeing of others so that individuals, communities and organisations can thrive. The Winchester Health Clinic is the embodiment of that ethos and it is a natural progression for the University to diversify into the provision of physiotherapy treatment."
The University's three-year BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree programme is accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. The course curriculum is developed in collaboration with clinical staff, including the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which works with the University on education and research activities as part of a strategic partnership. Practical elements of the programme are taught at state-of-the-art facilities in Winchester High Street.
The Winchester Health Clinic opens on 1 September 2021. Bookings for appointments are now open and can be made online at: www.Winchester-Health.co.uk The introductory fee is £40 per appointment.
