A University of Winchester lecturer has swapped the lecture theatre to be in front of a TV camera to cover the world's biggest footballing event for ITV Sport.
International broadcast journalist Angus Scott teaches the next generation of journalists part-time on the University of Winchester Journalism degree programmes, including the BA (Hons) Sports Journalism course.
He is currently in Qatar covering the World Cup 2022, reporting on the ground at matches and talking to teams and fans. He recently reported on all four matches taking place on one day.
Angus knows Qatar well, having lived in Doha when he fronted Al Jazeera's English language sports channel beIN SPORTS.
The 2022 World Cup has been controversial since FIFA announced Qatar as hosts in 2010. The tournament presents a unique challenge to Angus as a broadcaster.
"I lived in Qatar for seven years so it is great to come back and see how the country has transformed itself into a host for the World Cup," Angus says.
Speaking about the challenges he and other broadcasters face at the tournament, he said: "This is the biggest football tournament in the world and to be here presenting it is the pinnacle of anyone's career and as a journalist I need to find the right balance.
He added: "For the first time, events away from football have superseded what is happening on the pitch, so the difficulty for us as reporters and presenters is how to editorially reflect this. We have to talk about migrant workers deaths, we have to talk about slave labour, we have to talk about Qatar's position on homosexuality, but we also have to talk about football and finding the balance between all that is complex."
Angus studied English and Drama at the University and started his television career presenting local news and sport, having previously worked in newspapers. He has presented a wide range of sport, including football, rugby and motorsport. He has worked for the BBC, ITV, ITN, Setanta Sports, Al Jazeera, ESPN and BT Sport.
