More than 2,000 University of Winchester students and their families celebrated their academic achievements at Graduation ceremonies at Winchester Cathedral this month (19-29 July).
The Class of 2020 finished their studies last year during the pandemic, but had to wait to celebrate when Graduation was postponed last autumn due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Graduation also saw the achievements, distinguished careers and contributions to society of inspirational individuals recognised with the award of honorary degrees. Strictly Come Dancing judge and choreographer Craig Revel Horwood, actor Tommy Jessop (Line of Duty) (pictured below), and Elaine Cameron, Producer, Executive Producer and Head of Development at Hartswood Films, which makes the global television hit Sherlock, were awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts.
Craig Revel Horwood commented: "The University of Winchester does an incredible job teaching their students - really developing them, embracing them and sending them out into the big wide world."
Honorary Fellowships were awarded to Jock McKenzie, Director of Hampshire County Youth Bands since 2004, and Rosie Inman-Cook, manager of the Natural Death Centre charity (both pictured below).
This year, the 17 Covid-safe ceremonies - which students attended in person and virtually - were presided over by one of four distinguished friends of the University. Joining Chancellor of the University Alan Titchmarsh MBE VMH DL was Poirot actor David Suchet (awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts by the University of Winchester in 2017); Hannah Williams, University of Winchester alumna and former creative director of the University Music Centre, who made the final of ITV's The Voice earlier this year, and Lady Mary Fagan, former Chancellor of the University of Winchester.
As part of Graduations, the University welcomed donations to the Winchester Hospice Charity at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital; VaccinAid]: Unicef, working to supply vaccines to countries around the world, and Winchester First Star Scholars, opening the doors to aspirations for looked-after children.
