May is set to be a busy month for student musicians at the University of Winchester who will be performing music of all kinds at a number of public concerts.

“The Music Centre seeks to promote music making in all its forms and is open to musicians studying any subject. There’s such a wealth of talent here and we want to share it with the people of Winchester,” said Dr Vicky Feldwick, who leads the centre.

Bandfest

Groups from the University of Winchester will be taking over one of the city’s most popular music venues for the second annual Bandfest.

Bandfest24 will take place at the Railway Inn on Sunday, 12 May from 5.30pm.

It is run by the University’s Music Centre led by Dr Vicky Feldwick, assisted by a team of student volunteers.

“Bandfest is a chance for the students to showcase their hard work and dedication to music making while putting on a fantastic show,” said Vicky.

Acts lined up include Cheap Faith, Fruit Punch, Foreign Haze, Celestial Savage and Leaves On The Rails with more groups likely to be added.

On with the Show

A new choir set up and run by students at the University of Winchester will be performing at the city’s Theatre Royal on Sunday, 19 May.

The University’s ShowChoir (pictured above) will be singing alongside the Encore Choirs at On With The Show.

It promises something for everyone with uplifting songs ranging from pop and rock, through musical theatre to classical.

Both choirs are led by Josh Robinson, who works as a vocal coach at the University, where he also studied on the Performing Arts programme.

Josh said: “Performing in the Theatre Royal is a dream come true for us. We’re going to put on a truly inspiring show and make a really special event.”
