A budding entrepreneur from the University of Winchester has won a place in the final of a national student business competition.
Business Management student Taylor Nursten (pictured) will be pitching her product – Baby Biltong Bites – to the judges of the Enactus Spark competition in a Dragons’ Den-style final on 7 April at London’s Excel.
Enactus, which supports students and young people to engage in social action and social enterprise, ran a six-week course to help competitors develop their business ideas. The six best were selected for the final. The winner will receive £1,000 to help develop their project.
Taylor came up with the idea of Biltong (air-dried meat strips which originated in South Africa) downsized to suit children from as young as six months. Baby Biltong Bites come with a string attached as a precaution against choking.
The 19-year-old has roots in South Africa and the beef snacks are made to a family recipe at the Nursten family home in Storrington, West Sussex. As the meat is air dried it contains no chemicals or preservatives.
“I gnawed on Biltong from an early age and I still occasionally eat Biltong to this day,” said Taylor, who is in her second year at Winchester.
Taylor says she hopes to use the business skills she is learning at Winchester to become an entrepreneur.

The Winchester Hatchery opened at the University of Winchester this year offers a dedicated space for students and staff looking to develop their business dreams.
