The University of Winchester has excelled in the number of graduates from its undergraduate programmes who are in employment and further study, placing it in the top 10 universities in the country. Winchester is also the highest placed university in the region.
The figures are revealed in a new report by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). The Graduate Outcomes Survey 2020 is the largest survey of employment and further study outcomes for UK graduates and looked for the first time at what happens to students after they leave university.
Professor Joy Carter CBE, DL, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Winchester, said: "These impressive figures underline our resolute commitment to the success of our students and the employability of our graduates who go on to make a real difference in the world. These fantastic results are testament to the hard work of colleagues across the University and the employers we work with to shape our courses and help our students to flourish in the real world.
"With an ever-changing and increasingly challenging work environment, we have put huge amounts of effort into making our degrees relevant to the workplace whilst also focusing on the broader skills employers are looking for, such as critical thinking, problem-solving and creativity. We have found that combining this with work placements, volunteering opportunities and international exchanges adds to the breadth of education students receive on campus, opening their minds to what it takes to succeed in the workplace."
Tom Lowe, Head of Student Engagement and Employability, said: "Here at Winchester we support our students into future employment through our Careers service and have recently extended the advice and support we offer to all Winchester alumni, no matter how long ago they graduated. The jobs market is particularly challenging right now and so we are offering additional support to graduates and current students through an enhanced service."
Graduates who completed a higher education course in the UK between 1 August 2017 and 31 July 2018 were invited to take part in the HESA Graduate Outcomes Survey. Graduates were surveyed 15 months after they graduated.
