Multi award-winning writer and director and University of Winchester alumnus and Honorary Fellow, Dirk Maggs speaks at an Enterprise Lecture at the University of Winchester on 14 March.
The talk follows an announcement that The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy will return to BBC Radio 4 with a new series which Dirk Maggs will direct. The series features many of the original cast and guest stars celebrated theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking. The first episode in the series airs on Radio 4 at 6.30pm on Thursday 8 March.
During the event, Dirk will discuss his career and latest adventures with former BBC Deputy Director General and close friend, Mark Byford.
Dirk Maggs said: “I spent four very happy years as a drama student in what was then called The John Stripe Theatre. It’s a privilege to come back and talk about The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy and all the other audio work that those years led on to.”
Dirk is a prolific writer and director for audio drama, the stage, games, film and television. He is best known for his work as director on three of the previous five radio series of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Dirk is famous for evolving radio drama into ‘audio movies’ – a near-visual approach combining scripts, layered sound effects, cinematic music and cutting-edge technology. He pioneered the use of Dolby Surround sound in BBC Radio and was among the first nominees for the Directors Guild of Great Britain Outstanding Achievement in Radio Award.
Hitchhiker’s guide returns: Dirk Maggs in conversation with Mark Byford takes place at 6.30pm on Wednesday 14 March in The Stripe, King Alfred Campus, University of Winchester, Sparkford Road, Winchester, Hampshire SO22 4NR.
