The University of Winchester and Hampshire County Council are proud to support the fourth annual Hampshire Pride Festival on Saturday 24 February 2018.
The event brings together people from across the county in a show of unity, to highlight the contribution of the LGBT community to Hampshire. In previous years, the Hampshire Pride Parade has drawn around 300 members and supporters of the LGBT community.
Hampshire Pride is organised jointly by the University of Winchester's LGBTI Spectrum Student, Staff and Allies Network and Hampshire County Council's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) employee network, with the aim of promoting community, inclusivity and solidarity.
The Pride Parade will assemble at Winchester School of Art at 1pm and make its way through the city of Winchester from 2pm. The Parade will finish with an Indoor Street Festival hosted by Hampshire County Council at Elizabeth II Court, from 3pm. The event will include street performances and host a number of stalls by local businesses, charities and community groups.
The Hampshire Pride After Party, hosted by University of Winchester Student Union, follows in the evening, beginning at 7.30pm.
Professor Elizabeth Stuart, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Diversity Champion at the University of Winchester said: “The University has been a proud supporter of Hampshire Pride since its inception four years ago, when our staff and students worked with Hampshire County Council to deliver the first event. Encouraging diversity and inclusion on campus and across the city continues to be very important to the University so we are delighted to support the event again this year.”
Councillor Roy Perry, Leader of Hampshire County Council, said: “We are honoured to be supporting Hampshire Pride in its fourth year - an event which brings together people from all walks of life to respect, embrace and celebrate difference. Hampshire Pride provides an important opportunity for people to show their support for the LGBT+ community and we look forward to welcoming Pride participants to the Indoor Street Festival on Saturday.”
