A University of Winchester drama graduate appears in the new episode of Dr Who on Saturday.
Stephen Love plays the lead robot in Robot Revolution, the first episode of the new series which also sees the debut of the Doctor’s new companion played by Varada Sethu.
This is Stephen’s second appearance on the show. In 2023 the actor and puppeteer donned a green rubber suit and stilts for his role as a Wrarth Warrior pursuing David Tennant and Catherine Tate in one of the 60th anniversary episodes.
Unlike the Wrarth, the robots are the main villains of latest episode, which was filmed between August and December last year.
“It’s a really fun episode with plenty of chases and battle scenes,” said Stephen, who lives in Winchester.
“Everyone on set said how brilliant the robots looked, and I really enjoyed bringing their characters to life.”
Like the Wrarth Warriors, Millenium Effects created the robots. The suits, with a face plate in the chest, weighed 35kg and have massive hands.
You can catch a quick glimpse of Stephen’s face peering out of his robot suit in the behind-the-scenes show Dr Who Unleashed which airs after Saturday’s episode on BBC3 and iPlayer.
