Can you solve the murder in the cathedral?

17 Sep 2024

The University of Winchester is to stage another of its popular whodunnits – this time the scene of the crime is the city’s cathedral.

The departments of Policing, Criminology, Forensics and Law have teamed up once again to create a murder mystery for Winchester Cathedral’s annual Law Week (5-13 October).

Last year’s The Body on the Podium was among the highlights of the week and Natacha Harding, Head of Department of Policing, Criminology and Forensics, has again channelled her inner Agatha Christie to pen a gruesome scenario.

The year is 1560. Someone has been found dead inside Winchester Cathedral and foul play is involved.

Is there a knave in the nave? A crook in the crypt? A felon by the font?

Examine the crime scene inside the cathedral and then return to the onsite laboratory where you’ll consider the evidence and solve the case.

Natacha Harding said: “The Cathedral makes an extremely dramatic backdrop to our latest whodunnit. This whodunnit allows those taking part to become time travellers for a day, solving a Tudor crime with some of the latest in 21st century techniques.”

Three 90-minute sleuthing sessions, which will explore the criminal investigation methods of Tudor times, will run on 5 October.
