The launch of a new global health partnership, an important research study on healthy diets for pet dogs and student and staff success stories all featured in a busy month of April.
We also marked Earth Day and celebrated the holy month of Ramandan and the spring harvest festival of Vaisakhi. Find out what's been happening at Winchester over the last few weeks.
New research led by Professor Andrew Knight shows that nutritionally-sound vegan diets are the healthiest and least hazardous choice for dog owners to feed their pets.
The study is among the first large-scale studies to explore how health outcomes vary between dogs fed meat-based or vegan diets. Its findings have been widely reported around the world with The Guardian, The Times, Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, The Week and Channel 5 News among some of the UK national news outlets carrying the story and interviews with Professor Knight.

The University and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have launched a partnership to draw on their joint expertise to undertake collaborative global health work across the world.
The new Global Health Hub brings together academic, clinical, charitable and educational skills of staff and will build on the humanitarian and educational mentorship aid to many parts of the world both institutions have undertaken in recent years, as well as the work of the University's Winchester Centre for Global Health.
One of the first projects supported by the Hub aims to help improve palliative care in Ghana, collaborating on future government plans to build hospices across the country, whilst undertaking research and data gathering exercises. The project looks to support a future nursing and knowledge exchange programme alongside academic work over the coming years.

Originally launched in 2020 to support the educational progress of children from Armed Forces families, the Thriving Lives Toolkit has relaunched on a new interactive platform.
The Toolkit is the creation of the Service Children's Progression Alliance (SCiP Alliance), which is hosted by the University of Winchester, in partnership with the Office for Students Uni Connect Programme and The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.
University of Winchester research found that up to four out of 10 children who, if in the general population would go to university, do not go if they are from a military family.
Phil Dent, Director of the SCiP Alliance, said: "The University, through its access and outreach activities and its leadership of the SCiP Alliance's national work, is seeking to change that and to ensure that Service children's voices are at the heart of our work."

Congratulations to final-year LLB (Hons) Law student Vee Hooton who has won the Stowe Family Law Prize 2022. Vee will receive her award at a special ceremony later this year.
Vee said: "It was a complete honour to be awarded the top performing student in the family law module this year. My submission was on the balance of fairness and consistency in divorce procedures, which is extremely relevant to the recent enactment of the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020 that came into force last month. The legislative changes set to revolutionise and modernise family law, so being honoured with a placement in the busy family law practice, Stowe Family Law in Winchester, was an extremely fitting prize. It was an excellent module that was complemented by a knowledgeable lecturer and great students! I think I'd rather call this a team prize!"
The Prize follows a new collaboration between the University's Department of Law and Stowe Family Law Winchester, who specialise in divorce, dissolution of civil partnerships and associated matters, including financial settlements and arrangements for children.
"It's a pleasure to offer this award to a University of Winchester student. As a firm, we are keen to give something back to future generations of lawyers and it's great to be doing that with this highly regarded institution. The award recognises outstanding achievement in the family law module, and the prize includes work experience at the firm," said Vicki Rawlins, Partner, Stowe Family Law Winchester.
Dr Sabine Bohnacker-Bruce, Head of Department for Law, Economics, Accounting and Finance, University of Winchester, said: "We are delighted that Stowe Family Law is offering this award to one of our third-year students. It will allow the award holder to gain highly relevant work experience with a well-known local firm and enhance their employability ahead of applying for graduate posts in their final year at university. We hope that this year's award will be the start of an ongoing cooperation between our two organisations."
