Website maintenance
The University of Winchester website is currently undergoing essential maintenance as a precautionary measure following the emergence of globally significant cyber security concerns affecting PHP, a web technology that underpins a large proportion of websites worldwide.
Recent reports have highlighted how organisations across the UK, Europe and beyond have been required to take websites and online services temporarily offline while critical security updates are applied and systems are reviewed. Recent reporting by the BBC and other media outlets notes that government organisations, public bodies and major website operators have been affected by precautionary service suspensions following the disclosure of critical PHP vulnerabilities.
The University has taken proactive steps to ensure the security, integrity and resilience of its digital services. While maintenance work is undertaken, a temporary web environment is available at www.winchester.ac.uk for the general public. The main website remains available on campus. Key services remain available during this period, including:
- Viewing the Graduation 2026 live-streamed ceremonies.
- Booking a place at the University's Open Day on Saturday 7 November 2026.
- Viewing and requesting the UG27 Undergraduate Prospectus.
There is currently no evidence that University systems or data have been compromised. These measures are being taken to support a careful and considered response to an issue that is affecting organisations globally and to allow essential maintenance and security updates to be completed.
We apologise for any inconvenience and thank our students, staff, applicants and partners for their patience while this work is carried out.
