Equality and Diversity

Diversity enriches our community, learning experience and global outlook.

We celebrate diversity and welcome all, regardless of gender, sexuality, race or religion. We are a safe, friendly and welcoming environment for everyone to work, learn and visit. As a Stonewall Diversity Champion, we recognise that LGBT* students may face different challenges and we have numerous services to support you during your time at Winchester.

Our Senior Champion

"I am the Senior Champion for Equality and Diversity in the University. The Vice-Chancellor and all members of the Senior Management team are deeply committed to creating a University community in which all members can flourish. We delight in diversity and have a passion for equality. As Senior Champion I have a particular responsibility to the Vice-Chancellor for these matters. I have a long history of involvement in equality and justice movements and as a theologian I have written a great deal on sexuality and gender in the Christian tradition. I chair the University's Equality and Diversity Committee.

"Our staff tell us through our Staff Survey that the University is an inclusive place to work but there is always more we can do. We want to be models of best practice. So if there is anything you, as a student or member of staff, think we are doing wrong or anything we can do better, please do let me know.

Together we can continue to create a safe, inclusive and hospitable environment for all regardless of race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, belief, marital/civil ceremony status, disability or parental responsibilities."

Professor Elizabeth Stuart - First Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Stonewall

We became a Stonewall Diversity Champion in October 2010.

By signing to join the programme we became part of a good practice forum in which employers can work with Stonewall and with each other on sexual orientation issues. Becoming a Champion also highlights our commitment to working to support lesbian, gay and bisexual staff.

Since its start in 2005, the Stonewall Diversity Champion programme has grown from 100 to 600 members. Being a member presents a unique opportunity for us to engage with other employers on sexual orientation issues. We are proud to be part of this community.
