Professor David Voegeli is Professor of Nursing in the Faculty of Health & Wellbeing. David is a Registered Nurse and specialised in critical care nursing and respiratory medicine before moving into nurse education and research. He completed a PhD in immunopharmacology at the University of Southampton exploring the mechanisms of dermal inflammation and their modulation by antihistamines. During this David developed his interest in skin biology and tissue viability and has extensive experience of leading multidisciplinary teams with a strong focus on clinical and translational research. Professor Voegeli has an international reputation in the field of skin health and tissue viability, and much of his recent research has focused on Moisture-Associated Skin Damage, in both clinical and laboratory settings. David has published extensively in the areas of skin health and clinical nursing, with over 150 papers, book chapters and scientific abstracts published in leading international journals. David frequently reviews for several prestigious Nursing and Medical journals, and national / international funding bodies, and has been a member of the editorial board of The Journal of Wound Care since 2010. He is a member of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA), the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP), and the Tissue Viability Society (TVS) contributing to several International Clinical Guidelines and Best Practice Statements.
Areas of expertise
Prof. Voegeli has considerable experience of successfully supervising doctoral students, including those undertaking cross-disciplinary research. He welcomes informal enquiries from students interested in undertaking post-graduate studies / research under his supervision.
