Paul Rutter is a longstanding music industry educator, writer, musician, internationally published songwriter, composer and music producer. He is author of The Music Industry Handbook, and chapter author in The Film Handbook, alongside primary editor and chapter author in Creative Concert Production and Entrepreneurship published by Routledge (2024).
Paul is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Senior Lecturer at the University of Winchester, UK in music performance, production and popular music culture. Paul is Emeritus Associate Professor and former Head of Music at Solent University, Southampton. He has presented internationally on the music industries and music culture in Europe and Overseas and is a Visiting Professor in Music Entrepreneurship at ETIC School of Innovation and Creation in Lisbon, Portugal. His published solo songwriting credits include ‘Heaven Can Wait’ sung by Paul Young and Chaka Khan featuring David Gilmour, released worldwide by Sony Music. He has composed theme and incidental music for national ITV networked series, commercial video and advertising. Paul is an on-air guest contributor, commentator and research consultant in BBC regional and online media concerning popular music industry and culture.
