Biography

Alison brings extensive experience from a career in the cultural heritage, and the higher education sector. She graduated from Sheffield University with a BSc.(Hons) in Environmental Science, followed by an MA in Landscape Design, and later a PGCE in Further and Higher Education, and a PGDip in Landscape Conservation and Change from the Architectural Association.  Alison's earlier career was in the landscape and construction sector followed by a Senior Lectureship at Nottignham Trent University, lecturing on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in landscape and heritage management. Prior to her current role, she spent 14 years with the National Trust. Initially, she ran a large property portfolio in Hampshire, then she became an Assistant Director overseeing many and varied house, garden and countryside properties, with a national specialism in curatorship, public engagement and interpretation, and partnerships with HEI. 

In her role as the Chief Operating Officer at Winchester Cathedral, Alison leads the activities facilitating the mission of the cathedral, including the tenanted property, commercial and visitor business with their supporting functions, plus the legal requirement to conserve and maintain the historic fabric of the cathedral estate. She was previously trustee at Painshill in Surrey, and is currently a trustee of the Cathedrals Workshop Fellowship. Alison is keenly interested in accessibility, particularly intellectual, breaking down the barriers to knowledge, and is deeply committed to the Cathdral's vision of creating a place of welcome for people of all faiths and none.

Alison lives on the Hampshire border near Salisbury and is a member of Salisbury Cathedral, with the resulting split loyalty between two prominent sister cathedrals.
