King Alfred Quarter

The University gym

The Gym is situated in the heart of Burma Road Student Village, with state-of-the-art fitness equipment housed over 2 floors. The equipment supplied by Life Fitness provides an excellent workout experience. The top floor hosts a large cardio area providing bikes, running machines, cross trainers, rowing machines and more. There is also a stretching zone to get you ready for your workout and fixed resistance machines to improve your strength. Downstairs hosts toilets, changing spaces along with functional and weight training space. 

The Gym will now be a cashless facility, so memberships can only be made by card payments.


Gym Membership

John Shannon Sports Ground (JSSG)

The John Shannon Sports Ground (MUGA) is situated on the King Alfred Quarter, behind the Performing Arts buildings. This is an enclosed Tiger Turf All-Weather Pitch which houses two tennis courts, two 5-a-side pitches and one netball court.

Sports Hall

The Sports Hall is a 3-Courts Sports hall housed in the Bowers Building on campus. It is used for teaching and SU Sport training. The sports hall hosts a wide range of sports from Basketball, Volleyball, Dodgeball, Futsal, Frisbee, Badminton, Netball etc.

Bar End sports facilities

The Winchester Sports Stadium is situated 2Km away from Campus at Bar End. The stadium is home to a floodlit 8-lane athletics track and floodlit Tiger Turf All-Weather Pitch which houses three 5-a-side football pitches, or a full-size football pitch or a full-size hockey pitch.

The stadium is home to Winchester And District Athletics Club (WADAC) and is used by the SU Hockey, Football, Athletics, Rugby, American Football and SoccerSixes teams to train.

There is no general parking available at The Sports Stadium, unless a coach, umpire or Blue Badge holder. All Stadium users are asked to park at the local Park & Ride on Bar End Rd and walk through the new Winchester Sport & Leisure Park for access.

The Sports Stadium will now be a Cashless facility, card payments only.

8 Lane Athletics Track

The Stadium’s Athletics track comprises of an eight-lane track with sandwich surface and field discipline facilities. It is currently the hub of many outdoor sports in Winchester and creates an opportunity for young and old, the unfit as well as elite athletes to participate in sport.

All-Weather Pitch

The All Weather Pitch is floodlit to allow for evening play and is used throughout the week by a number of hockey teams, 5-a-side teams, social groups and private company bookings. The Winchester Sports Stadium All Weather Pitch is a top grade, and dressed, tiger turf pitch available for hire 7 days a week. It is a great venue for competitions, matches and training.

Parking

Parking at the University of Winchester King Alfred quarter is restricted until 4pm every weekday. After 4pm, you may park in the Dytche carpark.

For any block bookings, please contact Sports Management.

Unfortunately, there is no customer parking at the Winchester Sports Stadium – unless given prior permission, disabled or dropping off equipment. Any of these permitted users must ensure that they sign in at reception as ticketing is in operation.

A coach drop-off point is available within the stadium. Parking is available at the Barfield Park and Ride site (SO23 9SQ), located close to the Stadium off Bar End Road, accessible from junction 10 of the M3. Pedestrian access to the Winchester Sports Stadium is by a pathway through the Garrison Ground Playing Fields by the Bar End road.
