With its excellent transport links, proximity to the city centre and flexible choice of event venues, the University of Winchester is a popular location for anniversaries, birthday parties, charity dinners and themed events.

Decorated in style, our function rooms can be transformed to create the ideal setting or theme for your event. We can provide recommendations with regards to local suppliers who can help with flower arrangements, lighting, draping or chair covers.

With a maximum dining capacity of 110 in our Shakespeare Room and 250 in our Dining Room, the layout of the rooms is flexible and can be set up to include a top table, staging or dance floor area depending on your requirements.

Individual guest accommodation

There are 5 ensuite bedrooms within the Guest Accommodation block which all share a small kitchen area - there are also tea and coffee making facilities in the bedroom along with hairdryer and small television.

We have two single rooms and three double rooms (including one family room which contains a sofa bed suitable for three adults or two adults and two small children) within the guest accommodation block. Parking is free and available on a first come first served basis - please collect a permit when you check in.

Rooms must be cancelled at least 48hrs before the arrival date if no longer required, otherwise full payment will be due. Refunds will be issued for cancellations made before this time.

Group accommodation

During the Summer University holidays, our student halls of residence become available for group bookings with the option of either self-catered or catered accommodation. Whether you are travelling on a tight budget or simply looking for clean, fully functional rooms in a central location, with over 1800 bedrooms on campus we have something to suit your needs.

All of our halls of residence comprise of single bedrooms and depending on the time of year, we can offer either ensuite or standard (shared bathroom between 4 - 5 bedrooms) accommodation. All bed linen and towels are provided and subject to availability, we may be able to provide kitchen utensils for your group. Our experienced Events Coordinators will be happy to discuss your requirements further in order to find accommodation to best suit your needs.

Burma road student village

Individual summer let accommodation

During the Summer University holidays, we have a number of affordable single ensuite rooms which we let out to individuals for both short-term stays and long-term stays in one of our Student Villages.

Language schools/youth groups

During the summer months, we are able to accommodate a small number of Youth Groups and Language Schools.
Our excellent onsite facilities available to Youth Groups and Language Schools include the following:

  • Sports hall, tennis courts and athletics track available for hire
  • Night club venue with soft drink bars - available for discos and parties
  • Wide range of classroom and meeting room facilities
  • Dedicated Events Co-ordinator throughout your stay

  • Excellent location for visiting London, Stonehenge and the New Forest/ and other places of interest in the United Kingdom.

Onsite facilities

We have a wide range of facilities available to our guests who are staying onsite outside of term time:

Wifi/ Eduroam

Free Wifi is available for the duration of your stay. Logins can be arranged via the Conference Office or if you are a student or member of staff from another university, you can log in using your Eduroam details.

Laundrette

We have two laundrettes located onsite. One laundrette is located in Block B Burma Road Accommodation, and another laundrette located in on the ground floor of St Edburga. All machines cost £2.70 per wash, £1.70 per dry.

Ethical Earth

Ethical Earth is located in the Learning Café on Level 4 of the King Alfred Centre.

The Learning Cafe space provides an environment for students and staff to relax and study. Ethical Earth stocks selection of grab and go sandwiches, paninis, salads and fresh fruit pots.

All of Ethical Earth’s coffee beans are Fairtrade, Organic and Rain Forest Alliance Certified, served with organic milk or plant-based milks. There is a variety of made to order fresh fruit smoothies, freshly blended frappes and milkshakes.

We also stock a variety of cake slices, home-baked pastries and a large range of gluten-free cakes and biscuits. Ethical Earth provides a range of plant-based milks, sandwiches, paninis and cakes.

Cyber Italia

Cyber Italia is located in the Kenneth Kettle Building.

Term Opening Times:

Monday to Friday - 08:30-20:00

Saturday and Sunday – 10:00-20:00

Cyber Italia is located in the social learning space in the Kenneth Kettle Building. The team provide a full barista service for you, using fresh ground Fairtrade coffee and organic milk. They produce hand-stretched pizzas which are made to order “just for you” and can be customised with extra toppings, all available to order through click and collect.

In addition, there is also toasted panini’s, sandwiches and other hot eats. For those with a sweet tooth we have a range of Fairtrade muffins, cakes and freshly cooked croissants. They also produce a variety of made to order cold beverages including fruit smoothies, frappes, milkshakes and bottled drinks. Cyber Italia provides a range of plant-based milks, and sandwiches, paninis and cakes.

Parking

Parking at the University of Winchester is first come first serve with a RingGo fee payable along with a parking permit being displayed. Parking permits are only issued to pre booked customers only (for accommodation, conferences, meetings). If the above is not adhered to parking infringements will be issued.

Student shop

The Student Shop is open weekdays during the summer months, and sells a wide range of food, drink, stationary, cards and University of Winchester merchandise. Opening times vary - please contact the Conference Office for further information.

University gym

The University Gym is located on the ground floor of Block C, Burma Road Student Village. Pay as you Go membership options are available - for further information, see our sport and gym section or speak to our Sports Staff at the University Gym reception.

Café Life

Café Life is located on Level 0 of the West Downs Centre.

Term Opening Times:

Monday to Friday - 08:00-17:00

Saturday and Sunday – 10:00-16:00

Café Life located on the ground floor of the West Downs Centre building with views over the beautiful courtyard garden and pond. Café Life serves a range of barista made hot drinks made with organic milk or plant-based milks and flavoured with your favourite syrups. All coffee beans are Fairtrade, organic and Rain Forest Alliance certified.

Café Life also create a variety of made to order cold beverages including fruit smoothies, frappes, milkshakes.
Café Life stocks a selection of sandwiches, paninis, salads and grab and go products alongside a variety of Fairtrade cakes, canned drinks, sausage rolls, chocolate twists and cake slices.

The Pantry

The Pantry is located on Level 1 of the West Downs Centre.

Term Opening Times:

Monday to Friday - 08:00-20:00

Saturday and Sunday – 10:00-16:00

The Pantry is open to students, staff and the general public.
The Pantry stocks freshly baked bread and cakes from Winchester Bakery, free range eggs from Vale Farm located 2 miles from the university. As well a variety of organic and non-organic fruit and vegetables from local and independent suppliers. The walls are stocked with free flow dispensers, filled with cereals, dried fruit and nuts, grains and pasta and baking ingredients as well as a selection of cleaning and hygiene products including washing up liquid and household cleaners. We also have herbs, spices, oils and vinegars.

You are encouraged to bring your own re-usable containers and egg boxes and we also offer brown paper bags. You can also purchase a range of glass storage jars.
