Black History Month 2021 The Inside Out Podcast: Our Culture

29 Oct 2021

The focus of this third and final episode of The Inside Out mini-series is Our Culture.

University BAME Ambassadors Shelina and Alisha - with students Benji, Maya, Josh and Elliot - explore how some of our Black, Asian, minority ethnic and LGBTQ+ students deal with the pressures of being brought up in a particular culture and how this impacts how they are treated by their peers on a day-to-day basis.

They talk about social media's impact on individual cultures and how it can impact your studies. They also discuss what the University can do to encourage more Black, Asian and minority ethnic students, knowing that cultural differences will not negatively affect their experience here.

The Inside Out brings together student voices for open and honest conversations about race and diversity, seen from their perspective. The aim is to champion diverse voices and improve the education experience for all.

The Inside Out is one of the many ways the University of Winchester is marking Black History Month 2021 this October. The theme of Black History Month is 'Proud To Be' and we are proud to celebrate and honour our Black students, staff members, alumni and partners.
