How can we best speak for other animals in our anthropocentric human political systems? How can other animals' rights and interests be represented in local as well as national government? In this talk, Jane Smith of Animal Welfare Party, the UK's first ever elected animal rights councillor, will discuss her experiences of speaking for other animals in local government and in parliamentary elections, and suggests ways forward.

Professor Andrew Knight of the Centre for Animal Welfare has also been a parliamentary candidate for the Animal Welfare Party. He will provide brief insights into campaigning for animals within politics, and provide tips for media interviews.
