King Alfred Bursary for Care Leavers

 

Award up to £6,000

As part of our Access and Participation Plan, the University awards eligible full-time undergraduate UK, EU* and Channel Island students a bursary of £2,000 in each year of study. In addition, recipients of the scholarship, who are living in University accommodation will receive a £75 catering card credit shortly after arrival. A further £1,000 Graduation Bursary will be awarded to recipients upon successful completion of their course after the final year of study.

This scholarship will be awarded to students entering Higher Education at the University who have a former relevant care leaver status, who are under the age of 25 years old and who were ‘looked after' by the local authority for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14, which ended after the age of 16 (as per the Children [Leaving Care] Act 2000).

The King Alfred Bursary may also be available to students who have been:
• Privately fostered up to the age of 16
• The subject of a Special Guardianship Order and were ‘looked after’ immediately prior to the making of the order

Required Evidence:

Written confirmation of your status via a letter of support from your Local Children’s Services Department.

The University offers many bursaries and scholarships and to ensure a fair distribution of funding, there are some restrictions on who can receive mulitple awards. Recipients of the King Alfred Bursary are not eligible to receive the Unite Foundation Scholarship or the Stand Alone Bursary.
