The Link Gallery
The Link Gallery
One of the core values of the University is creativity. So we are really proud of the extensive and diverse art collection we have on display in the buildings and around the grounds of the University.
Much of our collection dates back to when we delivered courses in fine art. We have continued to collect works of art and we have an excellent reputation for supporting emerging local and regional artists.
Our main exhibition space, The Link Gallery, was opened in 2001 and has a changing programme of free exhibitions by contemporary artists based in Hampshire and further afield.
The University is proud to present the Art Trail, a walking tour of the wealth of artwork on display around our King Alfred and West Downs campuses, in addition to the Link Gallery exhibitions. This comprises work from the University’s permanent and loan collections including paintings, photographs, textiles, mixed media and sculpture. There are also occasional displays in the foyer of The Stripe, our main lecture venue, and in the Student Centre Gallery, both on the King Alfred Campus.
The Cosmic Walk, located behind the West Downs Campus, is a theological attempt to place our feet in the unfolding story of the cosmos. A number of pieces displayed aim to represent our participation in the birth and unfolding of the universe and to reflect upon that which we call the Divine. The artwork, which includes a labyrinth, a small pond and a meteorite sculpture, has largely been created by artist and theologian Dr Megan Clay.
