Biography

Matt joined the University in September 2013 having worked for a total of 26 years in schools as a teacher, Deputy Head and  Headteacher (14 years). Matt worked in a range of primary settings, working in some challenging areas and taught pupils in both Key Stage 1 and 2.

As well as his role as Headteacher, Matt undertook a secondment on behalf of the Local Authority to assist a school to move out of Special Measures and helped to run courses at County Level to develop leadership for prospective Headteachers and Deputies Headteachers.

Matt currently works as a member of the Maths Team within the Department for Teacher Development at the University and is an accredited NCETM Professional Development Lead. Matt also has interests in assessment where he is joint Priority Lead. As such, he spends as much time as allows developing case studies on primary schools and their different approaches to assessment. Matt is currently studying for his MREs.
