Sara Gangai is studying MA Regional and Local History and Archaeology part-time. Her interest in history stemmed from her undergraduate degree in Asian Studies with a focus on Japanese history and language. Having moved to Winchester from New Hampshire in the USA, Sara has found the history of the area fascinating and inspiring.
“What a perfect place to study, with such a strong focus on history and all the interesting sites we have here. Having the Hampshire Record Office so close is amazing – it is such a valuable resource.
“I was not only attracted to Winchester because of the location but the course offered the flexibility to combine both History and Archaeology. I thoroughly enjoyed the Approaches to the Local and Regional Past because it incorporated both subject areas giving us the freedom to choose. We covered a varied range of topics from the first Antiquarian researchers to battlefield archaeology and have been on some really interesting fieldtrips.”
Sara currently works for Wired Wessex coordinating a network group of small businesses in Winchester.
“I think the course is helping me to develop personally – my writing, critical thinking and research skills are improving. The subject matter in the first year is broad but in the second year we are able to fine tune our interests and focus our dissertation topic. I can see my dissertation and the information I have gained in the modules being an important stepping stone to future career possibilities or maybe even starting a company.”
