Having graduated from Winchester with BA Business Management, Ross Hayes from Southampton decided to carry on his studies and take MSc Business Management.
“I really enjoyed my degree and so taking my Masters here seemed like the natural progression. I know how knowledgeable the staff are within their respective fields – the fact that you are a name rather than a number means that they are able to recognise your strengths and weaknesses and tailor their teaching accordingly to help you reach your full potential.
“So far I have found the module on Management and Leadership the most interesting as we were encouraged to explore the issues of managing and leading people with a critical perspective. We read a number of articles and then had to share our insights with fellow students, which stimulated some really interesting conversation.”
Ross has just started his dissertation. “It’s only in the early stages but my dissertation will focus on the role that business schools fulfil within society and how that role has been called into question following a number of high profile business scandals – this topic area raises a number of questions, which will be answered through a critical discourse analysis, using ‘top’ business school websites, journal articles, government and business reports.
“My aim for the future is to work within industry for a few years and then progress onto a qualification that will enable me to teach Business at A level. The passion with which my lecturers here at Winchester deliver their subjects has inspired me to approach my studies in the same way and it has also given me inspiration and encouragement to go on and teach business.”
