Due to the variety of educational systems across the world, our entry requirements reflect the wide range of qualifications and routes to higher education represented in our global student community. The information below will help you determine the necessary criteria needed to apply and study with us.
Our International students come from all over the world and we understand that something’s are a little different when applying and then arriving at the University. We have therefore provided a list of some of the countries we work in with specific information included on Entry Requirements, Funding Opportunities, Visas and other useful information. Argentina
The University of Winchester welcomes students from Argentina onto a range of courses. All information below relates specifically to Argentinian students.
Foundation entry qualifications
Students applying for a Foundation programme at Winchester will be required hold the following qualification :-
- Holders of the Titulo de Bachillerato (BACH) with a minimum of 5/10 will be considered for admission to a Foundation programme
Undergraduate entry qualifications
Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to undergraduate degree programmes is a minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 5.5 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 560 in Paper-based TOEFL, 220 in Computer-based TOEFL).
Exceptions: Primary Education, Social Work and Journalism (please refer to the individual course pages).
All students applying for a Bachelors (BA, BSc and LLB) degree at Winchester will be also be required hold one of the following qualifications:
- Successful completion of a suitable one year UK Foundation programme from a recognised university or further education college
- Holders of the European Baccalaureate with a minimum 6.5/65% depending on the subject chosen
- Holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma " a score of at least 24-26 is usually required
- Successful completion of one year a recognised university in Argentina
Postgraduate entry qualifications
Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to postgraduate degree programmes is a minimum score of 6.5 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 5.5 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 580 in Paper-based TOEFL, 237 in Computer-based TOEFL).

The University of Winchester welcomes students from Australia onto a range of courses. All information below relates specifically to Australian students.
Undergraduate
We require a High School Certificate (specific state qualifications named below) and an appropriate ATAR score of at least 70.00 or an Overall Position (Queensland) of 14. Students without an ATAR score may still be considered and should contact us to enquire.
- Capital Territory: Australia Capital Territory Year 12 Certificate
- New South Wales: Higher School Certificate (HSC)
- Northern Territory: Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE, Post 2012 Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET)
- Queensland: Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
- South Australia: South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE)
- Tasmania: Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE)
- Victoria: Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
- Western Australia: Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE)
- We also accept students with a two year Associate Diploma with good grades. Please contact us for course specific grade requirements.
Postgraduate
- 4 Year university degree with a 2:2 or equivalent score (Division 2 / Division B / 60%)
- 3 year Bachelor degree (Ordinary)
- Applicants without a first degree but with 5 years relevant work experience may be considered for some postgraduate programmes
English Language
Students who have studied in Australia are usually not required to submit additional evidence of English Language.
If you have not studied the full duration of High School or University in Australia you may be required to provide evidence of your English Language. Further details on this can be found if you click here.

Postgraduate

- Four year honours degree achieving a good result from a reputable Bahrain institution with GPA of 2.6 or better.

Advanced Entry
- Students who have completed two or more years on a Bachelors degree may be eligible for advanced entry into Year 2 of a degree programme
Postgraduate
- A good Bachelors degree when studied for at least 4 years from a good University with a GPA of 3.0 above
- A 2 years Master’s degree with a score of 50 or better

- Título de Técnico (Diploma de Tecnico de Nivel Medio) (secondary school certificates) with good grades
- Certificado de Ensino Médio with an overall average of 5/10
Undergraduate
- Successful completion of a suitable one year foundation programme from a recognised university or further education college in the UK or Brazil.
- Certificado de Conclusão de Ensino Médio (Certificado de Ensino Médio) or the Título de Técnico (Diploma de Tecnico de Nivel Medio) followed by a suitable foundation programme.
- Successful completion of one year at a good University in Brazil with good overall grades (6.0 GPA or above)

Advanced level entry to Year 2 may be possible with grades from the below:
- Successful completion of 2 or 3 years at a good University in Brazil with good overall grades (6.0 GPA or above)
Postgraduate
- Bacharel / Licenciado / Professional title (4 years or more) with + 6.0+ on a scale of 1-10. We will also accept B/C or Bom/Regular as equivalent*
- A degree from a Federal Universities, Catholic Universities and certain State Universities and Courses may be accepted
- A recognised pre-Masters course

Brunei
The University of Winchester welcomes students from Brunei onto a range of courses. All information below relates specifically to Bruneian students.
Foundation
- Brunei Cambridge GCE A-levels with min grades DD
Undergraduate
- GCE A- level or International Baccalaureate ( please see course listing for specific grade and subject requirements)
- Students with a diploma (for example, National Diplomas or HND) will be considered for undergraduate degree programmes provided they have good average grades and have covered the relevant subjects for the degree course for which they are applying. Candidates with a Higher National Diploma, Advanced Diploma or equivalent may be considered for second or in some cases third-year entry onto a Bachelor's degree with a good GPA.
Postgraduate
- A good Bachelor's degree with a Second Class Honours (2:2) or above
- Students with lower qualification but with an average of five to seven years relevant work experience may also be considered for Masters or Graduate Diploma level study.
English Language
Students from Brunei may be able to provide their English O Level as part evidence of English Language. We require a grade C or above. In some instances, we may request a student takes an English Language test (e.g. IELTS, Pearson's PTE). Canadian High School Diploma (see below)
- Alberta - a General High School Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if awarded with an average of at least 65% in five grade 12 courses.
- British Columbia - the Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma) is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if awarded with at least five Bs (BBBBB) in grade 12 courses.
- Manitoba - the High School Graduation Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if five credits have been awarded at 300 level in at least four subject areas and with at least 65% achieved in each of these areas.
- New Brunswick - the High School Graduation Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if five credits have been awarded at 300 level in at least four subject areas and with at least 65% achieved in each of these areas.
- Newfoundland - the High School Graduation Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if five credits have been awarded at 300 level in at least four subject areas and with at least 65% achieved in each of these areas.
- North West Territories - a General High School Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if awarded with an average of at least 65% in five grade 12 courses.
- Nova Scotia "the High School Completion Certificate is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if awarded with at least an average of 65 per cent in at least five acceptable subjects at level 4 or 5.

Foundation entry qualifications
All students applying for a Foundation programme at Winchester will be required hold the following qualification:-

Undergraduate entry qualifications
Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to undergraduate degree programmes is a minimum score of 5.5 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 5.5 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 560 in Paper-based TOEFL, 220 in Computer-based TOEFL).

A well-recognised college affiliated with a large metropolitan university will normally be considered for entry with 60% (and above). Due to the very stringent marking schemes at the University of Calcutta and University of Pune (First Class degrees normally given marks between 58%-62%) we might accept students with lower marks.

Foundation
Singapore Cambridge GCE A-levels with minimum grades DD
Undergraduate
- A-Levels or International Baccalaureate (please see course listing for specific grade and subject requirements).
- Students with a diploma from Singapore, Ngee Ann, Nanyang, Temasek or Republic Polytechnics will be considered for undergraduate degree programmes provided they have good average grades and have covered the relevant subjects for the degree course for which they are applying. Candidates with Polytechnic and EDB Institute diplomas may be considered for second or in some cases third year entry onto a Bachelor's degree with a good GPA.
- Advanced diploma holders may be considered for second or in some cases third year entry to a relevant undergraduate degree.
Postgraduate
- A good Bachelor's degree (usually a GPA over 2.8 although we may consider other scores for some subjects with suitable work experience or additional training/qualifications) from the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technical University, or universities of equivalent standing in Singapore or overseas.

We have a long history of welcoming students from the United States of America. Below you can find the entry requirements we look for from American students.

Undergraduate
- A high school diploma with a GPA of 2.8 or better
And one of the following:
- SAT I with a minimum balanced score of 1060
- ACT composite score of 23+ to share your results with the University, please use ACT College Code number 8168 within your MyACT account.
- Advanced Placement Examination with Grades 3+ in at least two, and preferably three Advanced Placement tests*
- Satisfactorily completion of one year of a college/university program with good GPA from a recognised university (the GPA requirements would largely vary depending on the degree chosen)
- Holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a score of at least 28-32 is usually required
- A two year Associate degree satisfies the general entrance requirements and usually makes students eligible for advanced standing onto the second year
- Professional diploma from a technical school (two years post-secondary in a specialized field of study)
